Ultra-Long Transfers for Endovascular Thrombectomy—Mission Impossible?: The Australia-New Zealand Experience

We are pleased to share this recently published study that highlights that in selected patients transferred >300 miles, there was a benefit for endovascular stroke treatment (EVT), with outcomes similar to those treated in the comprehensive stroke centre in the EVT extended window trials.

Remote hospital CTP selection was not associated with ordinal mRS improvement, but was associated with fewer very poor 3-month outcomes for patients.

MBS Review Advisory Committee Vascular Interventional Radiology working group

We are pleased to announce that working group membership has been offered to the following ANZSNR members to represent the view of interventional neuroradiologists:

Dr Ken Faulder and Dr Albert Chiu

Established in 2021, the MBS Review Advisory Committee (MRAC) is an independent and clinician-led non statutory committee, which guides the work of the MBS Continuous Review. The MRAC is comprised of multi-disciplinary and skills-based members including clinical and research experts; as well as allied health, nursing, and consumer representatives.

In August this year, the MRAC endorsed a review proposal on vascular interventional radiology. The Committee further agreed to the establishment of an expert clinical working group to undertake this review, consisting of a subset of MRAC members and key external stakeholders.

The working group will be required to develop a draft report and recommendations, which will be subject to extensive targeted and open consultation processes prior to finalisation and submission to Government. Acceptance and subsequent implementation of MRAC recommendations are then subject to Government consideration.
